This one was a bit of a personal project as I wanted to make and give a unique christening present to one of my friends. I couldn’t think of anything better than a unique handmade keepsake.
I pretty much followed this pattern to the letter and just changed how I put it together to what I thought was easier for me. The pattern I used for reference was Favourite Teddy Bear Crochet Pattern by Teri Crews Designs. This is the first time I had done something like a teddy/cuddly toy so didn’t feel confident to change too much however I am well away with them now. I changed to colour and wool to make it more unique to the little boy (Ethan) I was making the gift for.
Although Ethan was a little too young to appreciate my efforts his parents were very pleased, my gift was the only one that got passed around for everyone to look at. I was brimming with pride.
I can make teddy in any colour with either a flower for a girl or a bow for a boy. If you would like your own unique handmade teddy to give as a gift just contact me via e-mail: email@example.com
This piece was one of the first commissions I did. I must admit I was a bit daunted by the whole thing as anything I had made before I could just let my creative juices flow however I knew with this I had to reign this creative side in a little as it had to look like a specific dog at the end. Furthermore as a dog owner myself I knew how important it was to get it looking the spitting image of 7 year old Missy.
The first thing I did was to look for a jack Russell pattern I could base my finished piece on. The one I decided on was Jack Russell Terrier Crochet Pattern Designed by Gina Renee’ Padilla. Looking at the pictures in the pattern of the finished article I knew I had to make a few tweaks like the face needed to me a little narrower and the nose needed to be a little smaller but these were things I managed to achieve as I was making it.
I personally think that if you can get the face right the rest will follow so I like to get this done first, also this tends to be the hardest part so I like to get it over with. I like to pick out a couple of things that will add to the character and really make it like the original and for this piece it was definitely the eyebrows and nose.
I was very pleased with the finished piece and so was Missy’s owner.
